Longueteau uses estate-harvested cane and ex-cognac casks, so we’re happy to pay a premium for this austere, decidedly grown up rhum, with an herbal, bitter green profile that will appeal to amaro enthusiasts. Vegetal notes and grassy overtones emanate from the glass, with an onslaught of ginger on second pass. The palate is equally sophisticated with a spice souk of cumin, clove and ginseng supported by generous helpings of oak and a bitter- sweet finish. A tremendous rhum that the French seem happy to keep to themselves.
