We’re suckers for Sauternes cask finishes so were easily tempted by this tequila hailing from the much revered La Alteña distillery, rested for eight months in ex-Sauternes and ex-cognac barrels – how can you go wrong? These casks lend a beautiful butterscotch sheen to the nose and palate but the herbal freshness of the agave still carries through. This is creamy and buttery sweet on the palate with some beguiling spearmint to close out the finish. A keeper that calls for a quiet moment and a tulip-shaped glass for proper savouring.
