One of the whiskey world’s last undiscovered countries, pure potstill (recently rechristened ‘single pot still’) is the DNA of Irish whiskey and the lifeblood of most of its blends, Powers included. The secret is in a mashbill that includes a measure of unmalted barley. The result is a richer, full-bodied whisky with a juicy, fruity centre, playful spices and honeyed texture, and black licorice on the finish. A steal at the price for this much unbridled flavour; if you have only one Irish on your shelf this should be it.
